WICC Pet of The Week

WICC Pet of The Week

Connecticut Humane Society is back with our series of highlighting exotic pets. This week, Buckwheat is our pet of the week. This domestic finch is part of a larger flock that recently came in to our care. Buckwheat is typical of pet finches: he is bright, alert, and greets the day with his song. Though pet finches can be gentled with daily, soft conversation, they tend towards being hands-off pets. In exchange for their daily song, finch owners should provide their pets with daily foraging opportunities and a habitat large enough to fly about in. As a flock species, it is best to have a larger number of finches, but at minimum, one should always house them with at least one other of their species.

To learn more about Finch care, feel free to give us a call, we look at buckwheat and the other pets we have available for adoption at CThumane.org. Please remember Adoptions continue to be by appointment only, more information is available on our website.
